This historic building is part of the Gaswerk Industrial site that once powered the city in a very literal way. Its structures, materials, and scale are part of Augsburg’s physical memory. But like many industrial spaces, its original purpose has changed.
What hasn’t changed is its potential.
Destination: Gaswerk builds on that potential. It takes a place people already recognize and transforms it into something they can actively use—a space for events, gatherings, performances, and shared experiences. It doesn’t replace Augsburg’s identity; it extends it. Here, the city’s past and present meet in a practical way , familiar architecture, used differently, historic space, activated for modern life, a known location, reintroduced with purpose.
The central body of the structure, defined by its elongated circular form and continuous perimeter flow. The hall spans a wide, uninterrupted floor area, allowing for flexible configurations that adapt to the nature of each event—whether structured, social, or performance-driven.
The geometry of the space naturally draws attention inward, creating a shared focal environment where guests remain visually and spatially connected.
The hall accommodates:
Its capacity scales depending on layout, supporting both intimate gatherings and high-volume events without losing coherence.
Every event needs a point of focus, and the stage provides that anchor.
Positioned within the main hall, it establishes direction without dominating the space. When in use, it becomes the place where attention gathers. When not in use, it recedes quietly into the structure.
The stage is designed to support:
Supported by integrated lighting and sound systems, it ensures that what happens on stage is carried clearly throughout the hall.
Not every moment of an event happens at its center, Some happen in between.
The bar is where those moments live.
It draws people naturally without instruction. Conversations begin here, pauses happen here, and the rhythm of the event softens.
It is less structured, more fluid.
Positioned to integrate seamlessly with the main hall, the bar supports:
It complements the event without interrupting its flow.
No two events begin the same way, the space does not expect them to, Instead, it responds.
Structured seating oriented toward the stage. Ideal for conferences, presentations, and formal gatherings
Round-table arrangements distributed across the hall. Supports dining, conversation, and shared experience
Minimal structure, maximum movement
Used for performances, nightlife, and large gatherings
A combination of formats within one event
Allows different experiences to exist simultaneously
